ABOUT
WHY NEW GROWTH COUNSELLING
The name New Growth reflects my belief in the body and mind’s innate ability to heal, adapt, and grow—even in the face of life’s toughest challenges, much like a seed sprouting in difficult conditions.
Counselling supports this process by helping us work through old wounds, update maladaptive responses, and reconnect with ourselves and others. As this happens, the brain forms new neural pathways, allowing us to integrate experiences, shift perspectives, and create healthier patterns.
This is the essence of New Growth: healing that goes beyond coping to foster renewal, transformation, and lasting change—growth from the roots up.
MY APPROACH
I understand psychological distress not just as symptoms, but as signals—ways the brain and body have learned to adapt and protect us. These responses, while once necessary, can sometimes become misaligned and leave us feeling stuck, disconnected, or overwhelmed.
My work is trauma-informed and integrative, blending EMDR, parts work, and relational and systems-informed perspectives. I focus on both the nervous system and the mind, helping clients process experiences, strengthen inner resources, and update patterns that no longer serve them.

ABOUT KATHERINE
I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC #15737) with several years in private practice, dedicated to supporting adults in moving from distress toward greater well-being. My approach integrates both body and mind, drawing on EMDR, parts work, and systems-informed perspectives to help uncover the roots of distress, shift unhelpful patterns, and strengthen the inner resources that support growth.
My work is grounded in the belief that the body and mind are wise, adaptive systems, capable of healing and growth. The responses that may feel distressing now often once played an important role in helping us cope or survive. What I find most meaningful is helping people recognize this wisdom with compassion and begin to find new ways forward.
I am especially passionate about emotional development and the shifts in perspectives and beliefs that come with healing from the roots up. Getting to the heart of the matter—uncovering what lies beneath distress and facilitating the changes people long for—is where I feel I can offer the greatest value as a counsellor, and where I find the most fulfillment.
My years in education and coaching sharpened my ability to recognize strengths and tailor support to each individual—skills I value deeply in my counselling practice. These experiences deepened my commitment to psychological well-being and continue to shape the way I work today.
A NOTE ON FIT
Research consistently shows that the therapeutic relationship is a key factor in healing. It’s important to find a counsellor you feel comfortable with and whose approach makes sense to you. Feeling understood — and believing in the methods being used — creates the foundation for meaningful change.
For this reason, I offer a free 30-minute consultation, in person or virtually, so you can get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
